We've just posted another informal video of an Irish tune on pennywhistle called 'Boys of Blue Hill,' one Timothy has played since the 1970s.  In this video he's playing a Jerry Freeman Bluebird whistle.

Just a note about the performance calendar: We had mistakenly listed the Peninsula Fine Arts Center event as February 21, but it's actually on March 21!  It's now been changed in the website calendar, but if you go to that wonderful gallery tomorrow, Timothy won't be there!

A new video, the first of two versions of a new arrangement, is for the Lenten and Easter seasons: 'When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,' by Lowell Mason and Isaac Watts.

And the second version is similar but different in many details.

We are definitely serious (this April Fool's Day) about a wild, wonderful place that carries our CDs and where Timothy has given many concerts: the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, in the Monongahela National Forest.  Timothy was born in the state when his dad was Chief of Fisheries.  (His dad had the beloved Spruce Knob Lake built.)  Tim and Ro had their honeymoon nearby at Canaan Valley State Park, and the family has frequented the area periodically for many decades.  Join Timothy Labor Day weekend when he's performing there next!  (Details soon.)

Today we feature a store that carries our CDs that is the place to go for instruments: Song of the Wood, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, east of Asheville a little ways.  It's run by one of the greatest builders (and players) of hammered dulcimers and bowed psalteries, Jerry Read Smith, and his sister JoAnn Smith.  They have an impressive variety of brands and models on display, and they're great folks to deal with and know!

Today we feature a really fine store that  carries our CD Cleansing Fountain: the Eastern National Bookstore at the Southern Highland Craft Guild Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, North Carolina, in the midst of some of the most marvelous mountains in the eastern US!  In 2007 we collaborated with Eastern National, the Parkway, and the FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway, to make this album.

We've just published the last new video in the series of five Celtic tunes on hammered dulcimer for St. Patrick's week: 'Brian Boru's March'!  The studio version of this arrangement with several other improvising instruments joining in, is on our album Jamestown: On the Edge of a Vast Continent, where its additional title is 'Raising James Fort'.

Today we feature stores that have long carried our CDs at the wonderful Hungry Mother State Park near Marion, Virginia!  For many years Timothy has enjoyed performing outdoor concerts there, getting to play his many nature, Parks, and outdoor recreation themed compositions.

Today we've posted the fourth video in the series of five for Saint Patrick's week: a personal favorite to play for the past 25 years!  It's an ever-spontaneous arrangement with room for many detail and mood changes, so this version of 'Planxty Irwin' by Turlough O'Carolan is one moment in time captured!  The Youtube video's text area has more discussion of Timothy's approach to this exquisite Irish air.  A studio recording of this piece from 1998 (in a different key, on a different dulcimer) is on the album Celebration of Centuries.

And today's featured store is a beautiful cabin built by the Civilian Conservation Corps at mile 24.1 of the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, the Elkwallow Wayside!  The photo of Timothy with his instruments (taken by his brother Lowell Seaman) in the booklet of the album Here On This Ridge is at the Elkwallow Picnic Ground in front of a similar building.

Timothy has published a new video of one of his own compositions: 'Big Meadows Twilight' for Shenandoah National Park in Virginia!  This is a live solo performance of the piece that was originally recorded for the album Quiet in the Meadow and also included in the Parks compilation Common Wealth.

And one of the wonderful rustic places you can get the Quiet in the Meadow CD is the Big Meadows Wayside, in the Park!

The new blog post today discusses how the melody 'Big Meadows Twilight' came to be and how it was developed on the hammered dulcimer.  It includes a link to the new video as well as photos and sheet music!

One of the great locations where our CDs are carried is the Skyland Lodge Gift Shop in the central section of Shenandoah National Park.  Originally run by George Freeman Pollack in the early 20th Century, this rustic resort became a special destination within the National Park after Pollack convinced the Federal Government to establish and protect the marvelous place.

In the northern section of Shenandoah National Park is the classic CCC-built Dickey Ridge Visitor Center, one of several sites in that wonderful park that carry our CDs.  It's jointly run by the Park Service and the non-profit Shenandoah National Park Association (who also sell Here on This Ridge in their online store).

A truly wonderful rustic place, Big Meadows Lodge in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, has a fine and friendly gift shop with Park themed items, and our CDs are among them.  When you're up at the Park, make sure you stop in there!  (They have a fine restaurant, too, overlooking the vast panorama of Page Valley.)

We've uploaded another new video of solo hammered dulcimer: 'We Hung our Harps the Willow Trees Upon,' a medley of two rare Appalachian folk hymn tunes from the shape-note tradition, using Timothy's unique dramatic arrangement techniques.  It's one of his favorites to play, and he opens with this selection in many of his concerts.
